Epicatechin is a bioactive compound and classified as a flavonol, a sub-sub-group of polyphenols found in green tea. Polyphenols have been used in ayurvedic medicine for centuries and occur organically in plants. This compound is most commonly found in green tea as well as dark chocolate. Epicatechin has undergone numerous studies; epicatechin is believed to promote muscle growth and subsequently strength while also lowering LDL through its antioxidant properties. In conjunction with its antioxidant properties, Epicatechin may increase Nitric Oxide production, which allows for blood to flow more easily to muscles, and is the reason for the feeling associated with the phrase pump when lifting.
